A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide) was first published by the Project Management Institute (PMI) as a white paper in 1983 in an attempt to document and standardize generally accepted project management information and practices. The first edition was published in 1996.
The latest English language PMBOK Guide Fifth Edition has just been released on December 31, 2012.
The new version has increased the number of processes from 42 to 47. One major change is the “new” project management knowledge area called “Project Stakeholder Management”. It is not entirely new since processes are close related to those in knowledge area “Communication Management” in version 4th.
